Working from home has been a huge adjustment to our lives that many of us have had to make. Since March, although some people have gone back into the office a huge amount of people are still working from home and are likely to be for the foreseeable future.
One of the biggest challenges of working from home is balancing working with being in the home. Not being in an office environment and having the demands of home life interfering with work can hider productivity. This is why if you are going to be working from home for the foreseeable future, it is a good idea to create a space that you can use specifically as an office only. This should make life a little easier when balancing work and home tasks.
Here are a few ways that you can create your own office space in your home…
Under the Stairs – This is a great place to put a small office area to work in. This area can be utilised with a small workstation and clever storage solutions. Look at adding some shelving on the walls for additional storage and to prevent the space getting too cluttered – this shelving Ireland based company Rackzone have some great shelving solutions that may be able to help you.
Garden Office – A garden is a great place to put an office – of course not open and exposed to the elements (at least not in the UK!) but a garden room is the perfect place to work from. As well as being a quiet place to work, as it is separate from the rest of the house it is much easier to keep a good work life balance. It can also be a relaxing place to work, as you will be able to look out on the garden throughout the seasons.
Corner off a Space – If you need a space to work in but don’t have a spare room, why not corner off a part of one of your existing rooms? Put up a room divider to make a clear division between the workspace and the living space. You can still blend the area into the rest of the room, but a divider is a great way to keep the spaces apart.
Use your Loft – If your loft is storing your Christmas decorations and childhood toys, why not convert it into a home office? At the top of the house you can be away from the hubbub of the household and the comings and goings of everyone in it, as well as having a bright and airy space to work from. You could even convert half of the loft for use as an office and the other as a guest bedroom or other useful room which would have the bonus of adding value to your home.
