If you have a gutter system that is leaking, your roof leak is probably going to be coming from one of the seams between the roof tarp and the gutter. Sometimes this will be a small seam and other times it will be a large seam which will allow a lot of water to get inside. In order to fix your leaking roof, you first need to determine if the leak is coming from one of these seams or if it is coming from the gutters themselves. There are a few things you can test to make sure.
One thing you can do to check if you have a leaky roof is to use a wet/dry rotimeter. This device will be attached to your roof, usually on the peak, and it will take moisture level readings while you have the roof closed and open. You should take the measurements of the areas where there is the most water damage, which is usually where the largest amount of water enters your attic. The area outside the attic will not have nearly the amount of water damage as the attic does.
In order to figure out how to stop a roof leak, you should consult with a professional roofing contractor. They can usually recommend products and solutions for fixing your leaking roof. If they cannot fix your roof leaks on their own, they most likely can recommend a contractor that can. They may also have some suggestions on where to go to get the best products for fixing your roof leaks.
